Textured Stainless Steel Sheet: How to Choose a Pattern

Quick Answer: To choose a textured stainless steel pattern, first match the pattern scale to the viewing distance and room size — fine patterns for small rooms and close views, bold patterns for large lobbies and long sightlines. Then consider traffic (denser textures hide fingerprints), lighting (grazing light flatters raised patterns), and whether to add PVD color. Order a physical sample before committing; a pattern that looks right in a photo can read wrong at full wall scale.

• It hides the evidence of use. Raised patterns break up reflections, so fingerprints, smudges and fine scratches that scream on mirror or plain brushed sheet barely register on a textured surface.

• It adds depth without glare. A textured wall catches light and shadow instead of bouncing hard reflections — the effect is architectural, not mirror-like.

• It stiffens thin sheet. Embossing adds rigidity, which means thinner gauge can be used for wall and ceiling panels than with flat sheet.

• Under 2 m (elevator, door, furniture): fine, dense patterns — vertical line, small diamond, 5-bar

• 2–8 m (corridor, reception wall): medium patterns — medium diamond, standard line

• Over 8 m (lobby, atrium, long wall): bold patterns — moon rock, big wave, antique square

• Direct downlights: cast strong shadows into grooves — dramatic, can look heavy

• Grazing / wall-wash light: flatters any raised pattern, highlights relief

• Diffuse / low light: pattern softens and can disappear — choose deeper relief

• Minimal / tech: fine line, small diamond, 5-bar

• Organic / natural: moon rock, ripple, wave

• Classic / vintage: antique square, linen, snake skin

• Luxury / statement: big wave, custom die-stamped motifs, PVD colored texture

**

• Fine scale (10–25 mm repeat): reads as texture, not pattern. Safe on any size wall.

• Medium scale (25–60 mm): reads as deliberate pattern from 2–5 m.

• Bold scale (60+ mm): reads as strong design statement from across a room.

• PVD color darkens the pattern — deep grooves trap less light when dark. A bronze moon rock looks moodier than a silver one; make sure that is the intent.

• Test color + pattern together — the interaction of relief and coating is hard to predict from catalog images.

**

1. Bold pattern in a small room. A moon-rock wall in a 12 m² elevator lobby or boutique overwhelms the space. Scale the pattern to the room, not the brochure.

2. Fine pattern on a huge lobby wall. Vertical line across a 40 m wall reads as grey shimmer, not texture. Use bold relief or add spacing between panel bands.

3. Mixing pattern families on one wall. Different textures in the same wall compete. Use one pattern, or deliberately separated zones with a clear joint.

4. Ignoring pattern direction. Line and directional patterns must run the same way across adjacent panels — or grain the wall looks patchy.

5. Deep texture under direct downlights. Heavy relief with overhead spotlights can look cavernous and dirty in shadow. Prefer grazing light or accept the moody look.

6. Ordering without a physical sample. Screen rendering flattens relief. See the real panel under your lighting before committing.

• Reflectivity — a pattern that looks matte in a photo may glint under your specific lighting

• Scale perception — 50 mm repeats look delicate in a phone photo and massive on a 3 m wall

• Color interaction — PVD tone over relief looks different than over flat sheet
